Many of us take for granted free speech in the West. However, some troubling legislation has recently touched many free nations including England, Canada and Australia and has threatened to limit that right and awakened citizens to the need for action. This type legislation is now being considered in the U.S.A. as H.R.254, the hate-crimes bill. Christian World News recently conducted an interview with an Australian pastor who was adversely affected by such legislation. Click below to watch this report on Australian Pastor Danny Nalliah.
At the end of the clip, Pastor Nalliah discussed H.R.254, the hate-crimes bill that has been introduced in Congress. What are your opinions on this bill? How do you feel it would negatively or positively affect speech in this country?

I’ll be back soon, email me and I’ll explain if you want, it is kinda interesting given your topic of this post.
Anyway, very few countries have the right to freedom of speech that we do in the US. For example you can’t deny the holocaust in Germany. While people who would do that are knuckle heads, they have the right to do it here.
Here is Jerry’s view on hate crimes. They are stupid. Is it more of a crime to assualt someone for being different. Remember Mathew Sheppard being killed becuase he was gay? Does this crime warrent punishment that more sever becuase it is a hate crime than when the guy if he is ever caught, that shot Derrant Williams in a drive by? Both victems are just as dead?
If something is a crime it is a crime it doens’t need to be strengthened becuase it is a hate crime.
note that this is different than discrimination laws, I support efforts by the government to prevent racial, religious, national origin, sexual orientation, medical condition, discrimination. Those law are to be encouraged.
A second post after reading the law.
I am not all that concerned by making hate crimes a federal law, it gives the authority to the federal government to prosecute crimes that a symathetic local population might not do.
Imagine if in the 50 and 60 if the feds had the authority to arrest and prosecute southerners that where guilty of crimes against blacks but went unpunished becuase of the KKK riddled DA office.
It seems this could actually be a good tool if used that way.
I have to agree with Jerry..
If this law is used and applied in the correct way, it could do good!
If instead it’s used for politacle gains only….then it’s very very bad news for our rights!
But then again, what di I know..
Just take a look at the health track record of our goverment on my blog and think you will get a picture of how the goverment will use the law to their advatange
If this law isn’t abused, it can be a good thing, but it looks like it’s probably going to do nothing but harm to free speech.
