I’m sorry, I’m just not buying it. I think this sort of thing totally undermines us when we need to speak about ACTUAL bad actions and ACTUAL cover-ups by the U.S. government & corporate interests. We’ve got a lot of work to do in a short amount of time following this week’s elections: About 10 weeks till the new Congress is inaugurated, then the proverbial “100 days” (probably less) in which to convince the public, the anti-war movement, and the representatives that impeachment is viable and necessary; in which to try to focus the coming committee investigations in the House & Senate onto REAL issues. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE let’s focus on a conspiracy that actually took place: They lied about the reasons for war, they ignored advance warnings about 9/11 and lied about that, they detained people without charge, they tortured people, they lied to us that the tortured people were terrorists, they wiretapped without warrant, they promoted an unconstitutional theory of executive power, they obstructed justice, they broke international law, they failed to act timely during Katrina. They DIDN’T blow up the twin towers. Saying so justifies the reactionaries in calling us the “looney left.”
Why is it that whenever anyone says something about 9-11 lies that the person who hasn’t been educated on the issue always attacks the messengers credibility instead of examining the evidence? ‘looney left”? C’mon you can’t really have said that could you?
This reminds me of the old phrase shoot the messenger!
“Shooting the messenger” is a phrase describing the act of lashing out at the (blameless) bearer of bad news.
In ancient times, messages were delivered in person by a human messenger. Sometimes, in times of war, the messenger would be from the enemy. An easily-provoked recipient would take out his anger on the person delivering the message, literally killing the messenger. In modern usage, the expression refers to any kind of punishment of the person bringing bad news.
Alternative expressions:
* “Killing the messenger”
* “Attacking the messenger”
* “Blaming the bearer of bad tidings”
Anyways I will just post a bunch more to prove my point. The least you could is examine everything before you get started in on shooting me and my credibility? No?
Well I am not sure what to think anymore, but I know that it serves little purpose to make it into a “left-hating” issue. We have to try as much as we can to look at what we know, and evaluate what we have access to. There are so many different stories its hard to know who to beleive or what to think.
